To be clear ... once i have my kohler reg/rect installed ... my yellow and pink both go straight into the unit ...

... so there is no reason to cross the wires in the head stock (for the "lights on wire" to always be engaged). Correct ?

(i have a 73 CL ... the lights DO have an off position)

Pair up the white and yellow wires wherever you connect to the regulator, that's the only way the alternator can produce full output. When you're running around "lights off" the regulator will deal with the extra charging current(if any).

I don't know how different your bike is from the 450K's but my Kohler is set up like this;
