The Kickstarter on my 72 cl 450 seems to have a lot of take up, it starts at 12 oclock, engages at 9 and stops at 3 I'd like it to engage at 10:30 or 11 even. is this just a normal dohc 450 idiosyncrasy, or is mine damaged or improperly installed? any ideas how to fix or improve it?
Thanks,
Greg

450's have notoriously useless kick starters - you only get about 1/4 stroke with them.
Like yours, most don't even engage till they're halfway down......

My CL175 seems to do the same thing - normal? Takes about 90 degrees of kick for it to even engage... good thing we have electric start.

hmm, guess I'm glad there is nothing wrong with it, but not quite the answer I was hoping for :? perhaps I can preload it a few splines, get rid of some of the lost motion or work in a bend.. just have to figure out a way to keep it from whacking the engine case on return..

I think I'll take your word for it Bill, not sure I'm willing to split the cases out of shear curiosity;)
