Hi there, having got my bike through the UK MOT test and finally registered I've started the major strip down and restoration. One thing that bothered me when the bike was running is the right plug always seemed as though it was a touch on the rich side (dry sooty deposits). When I initially stripped and cleaned the carbs the right carb looked older and in worse condition inside and out than the left, almost like the left had been replaced, but I didn't give it much thought untill now. So here's what I found on closer inspection.........

Left carb: Main 130, Pilot and secondary pilot both 38
Right carb: Main 130, Pilot and secondary pilot both 40

Kinda tallys with the rich running right cylinder but would the difference between a 38 and 40 be that noticeable?

I've tried to source some pilot jets here in the UK, without much luck so far, the only things I've come across are Keyster kits. After reading some of the comments about these kits on the forum I'm a bit reluctant to buy them, anyhow they only have the pilot jet, main jet etc and not the secondary pilot.
Are there any suppliers still stocking these items or am I worrying about nothing?
Cheers for now.

I recently got 2 of these K5 carb kits from RetroBike,

http://www.olypen.com/retro/

Kits, http://www.olypen.com/retro/KH-0116.HTM

They are Keyster kits.

The only complaint I've found about Keyster kits is that some ebay sellers sell improper kits with the wrong air/fuel mixture screw for a 72 & up.

The K5 kits I got had the proper ["stepped"] screws.

It sounds like you have a mismatched set of carbs off of 2 different bikes.

Finding just the single secondary pilot jet by itself will probably be a trick.

Thanks for that....yep someone's made it interesting by swapping the carbs :? .....the Keyster kits I found are from a reputable dealer so if nothing turns up I'll go for them for now and try to source a replacement secondary later.

Hi Nigel, I'm up in the snow covered hills of Derbyshire, I live quite near to one of our most infamous biking roads if you know what I mean?
Cheers Kev.

Hi Kev
Thats cool, no pun intended  You live quite close to Chris (Gamd5) he will be a good person to give you help for sure and he is a really nice guy.
Hope we can get a 450 meet together sometime soon, though maybe a time when its a little warmer would be a tad more appropriate. :p

Hey folks

Sorry I saw this a bit late on, but you might have seen from my own (fairly lengthy) post - http://www.hondatwins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=3737 I've been struggling with carbs 'n' jets 'n' stuff.

For the main kits, I got in touch with Andy at http://www.nrp-carbs.co.uk. He supplies Keyster kits, so if you've already got some of those, you'll know what bits they do and don't contain. He (and CMSNL and David Silvers) can supply different size main jets and I'm pretty sure the long, thin pilots aren't that hard to find - for some reason I seem to recall they're part of the Keyster kits anyways. The really tricky bits to find are the stubby idle/slow jets (#20) and the needle jets (unnumbered part between #'s 3 and 18 under the main carb body) in this image:

I very nearly gave up hope of finding any 'cos the seemed to be entirely unobtainable (and there ain't no-one this side of the pond that has any), until I found that http://www.siriusconinc.com sell pairs of both jets in one kit. They also sell a main jet kit, with a selection of sizes ranging from 135-160. Needless to say I bought both - and although my timing isn't quite right, the jets seem to have pretty much resolved an idle problem that has been bugging me for a very long time. Delivery from Canada took about ten days.

Hope that helps.

Hey chauffeur, thanks for the info. Boy you took the long way round with your idle wows!....glad to hear you have it under control now....guess this bikes a keeper.
As for my little teaser there may be light on the horizon. I've been offered a set of pilots and sec pilots by a fellow forum user who is breaking a 450. Providing the jets are the right size then all is good. If not then your info will come in usefull so thanks again for that. I've actually already been in touch with NRP about the Keyster kits and with other bits available from Sirius it looks very promising if I need to go down that route.
As usual the Forum has come up with the goods. Thanks to all for their help so far.

Yep that sounds like a plan. I know that Ray is also intersted in getting some 450's together too.
