I got my first Honda Twin (and my first motorcycle) in 1993 for $300 -- a 1975 CL360. It ran, but with low power. My buddy who had a CB350 said "it's probably the carbs". It turned out to be that the compression was shot on the left cylinder. I ended up rebuilding the engine on the porch of my apartment in Chicago and riding it for a quite a while before giving it to my youngest brother in the early 2000s. He sold it to another middle-aged guy dying for a project around 2010. I've had a few other bikes, including a 1976 360T and a 1973 CB750. Even though I loved the CB750, I enjoyed working on the twins the best. (Four carbs?!?) All that said, I drifted away from old bikes and got a late model BMW twin (FJ800), which is my daily rider.

I got pulled back to old bikes, specifically old Hondas, about 4 years ago, my then 15 year old son wanted to work on something mechanical and found a 1975 CL360 for $250 here in WI. It was a basic barn find that ran, but needed real work. He was slow on the uptake and never got very far with it in high school. However, he went deep on it last summer and we've been working on rebuilding it since. He's been back from college for an extended period due to coronavirus, so we've been making even more progress on it. He wanted to do a bit of a resto-mod -- a kind of café-scrambler. We took it completely apart and are now in the last stages of reassembly. He painted the tank (it wasn't original as it was) this week. We have a new electric harness and controls (Common Motor) and I'm deep in trying to get that all working. It's been super fun for me, both working on it with him and rekindling my love of working on these bikes in general. It's made me want to get another and start again. I must say, though, looking for old Hondas, the days of $1/CC are long gone!

I'm looking forward to spending some time learning in this community. Thanks in advance for the help. I'll post a some pics soon.

Welcome, thanks for the introduction and backstory on the current project. Always good to be able to work on a project with your son, my Dad and I did many of them during my younger years. We have a lot of resources available here so when you have questions, post them along with plenty of pictures in the appropriate category and we'll help you through it.

Thanks, ancientdad! I agree -- the resources here are great. I've been learning a lot just going through past posts and "stickies". I'm currently stuck on electricals and I'll post on the electronics section.

BTW, this is something that might help too - when you first get into vintage bikes and need parts these days now that the dealership/OEM stuff is predominately not available, this info will help you find what you need
