If the HT cables are damaged on my coil, would I have to replace th coil, or do the cables twist out just the way the plug caps twist off? Kinda feert to test it out in case I break them off.

They are "cast-in" and not generally considered replaceable, which is not to say it can't be done.....
Some have carefully cut the castings and done so, epoxy-ing the excised/broken-out pieces back on after installing new wires....
For dependability and safety, I'd recommend a new coil.....
