Hello My name is Mark I am trying to get a honda sl350 running It starts but it just sputters and pops the more throttle the worse it gets I rebuilt the carbs and adjusted the floats set the points and timing adjusted the valves and nothing changed seams like a timing issue because when its running I can move the timing way out and it gets better Is it posable to check if the timing chain has jumped a gear without taking the engine apart?

Advance mechanism is stuck. Remove points plate and bolt off end of camshaft. Remove advance unit noting the cam pin and notch on back of advance plate. Note also the orientation of the parts as they can be assembled 180 degrees out. Clean and lightly lube, it has to move smoothly and springs should be able to easily pull it back.

Possible of a broken keyway on the flywheel. You will need a flywheel puller that you thread into the female part of the flywheel then tighten the center bolt (after you have already removed the large nut). You can then inspect the keyway to make sure it is not partially sheared. I would also check the 3 coil wires to make sure they are not shorting out.
