Hi All,

It's been almost 3 years since my last post and I'm happy to announce that my CD200 Roadmaster project has finally come to a close apart from some final wiring and carburetor tuning.

It was recently accepted in a garage build show hosted by Woodstock Motor Corporation in Cape Town.

There were many challenges and changes throughout the last couple of years of building including moving house, being without a garage for the last year etc.

However with unconditional and awesome support from my wife and daughter, my family and friends I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Oh BTW, did I mention it had become a scrambler since my last post :) Hoping to post more pics and some of the progress pictures as well!

Hi All, After my initial issues I found the following, The oil was over filled, about 2l as apposed to 1.5l, I suspect this caused oil to be pulled into the cylinders. The tank on closer inspection had a lot of fine rust and sediment inside. I also have some kind of short as my speedo lights would sometimes just turn off (without bike running), and if I turn the handlebars, it will come back on. In the meantime I started on some odd cleaning. Tank and seat has been removed. Slow progress, but a start. I'm still playing with the thought of keeping the original color or changing it to something 'new' albeit not 100% original. Here are some pictures.

Hi Leon and Imran,

Sorry, been a bit occupied with lockdown and all.

To Leon, will definitely make contact to share what I've learnt and also how your project is fairing.

To Imran, yes, it is indeed a CDI unit, the bike was modified, prior to me purchasing it to run with the CDI unit. It still has the points, but the condenser has been removed from the circuit.

The current setup is all engine and ignition run on the original 6v, and all lights and electricals run on 12v through a step-up unit... a setup for which my mechanic has cursed me, but he got it working.

Dear Johan,
Thanks for your reply.

That means your bike has a combination of Points and CDI both !!! Owao, an astonishing mechanism for me. your CDI unit is also running by 6v and other electrical, lights running by 12v.. Setup Unit !! what a mechanism, if possible share the details of the mechanism with photographs. Thanks.
