Hello everyone, first of all thank you very much for all the information you offer here! I have a problem with my honda cd175, it starts and stays perfectly when it's cold, however when driving the motorcycle for about 5-10 minutes the engine turns off and does not start again until the engine cools down again and starts well until it stops heats up and runs out again what do you think could be the problem?

It could still be a number of things....

Valve clearances checked and adjusted, CB points checked and adjusted, ign timing and cam chain checked and adjusted, oil changed and filter cleaned, a good starter and runner for about 10 mins then it refuses to run again untill it's cooled down....

Ten mins or so of running without cooling ( an large fan ) is quite a bit.....

So, have you checked fuel flow to carbs, and, for loss of HT ( and carb contents ) when she misbehaves ?

I assume charging system works and battery has enough energy to whizz engine over when engine misbehaves ?

That’s a good idea. I was going to suggest replacing the condenser and checking the ignition coil & caps. Checking for spark when it quits can separate whether you have an electrical or fuel problem.

An update on the bike....

Drain the oil and remove the side cover and I saw this! Apparently the oil filter was stuck with a lot of dirty and the engine doesn't lubricate too good... Is there may be the reason of overheating and dies after a 10 min run? Coil, sparkplugs, condenser, carb , fuel supply, valve clearance and timing are ok

Just curious, when you say it won’t start after being ridden; are you saying it cranks but won’t start or the engine doesn’t turn over?
If it cranks; consider Mike’s suggestion and take a spark plug with you.
If it doesn’t crank; good chance you’ve got some damage on the camshaft and probably the end pieces that support the camshaft.

Yes the bike starts again when I wait a 5 or 10 mins and run again for about 5 min more but when the engine heats again the bike shut down and I have to wait again to the engine cools down again... Lubrication it's ok when is hot, have spark when is hot, have gas, maybe the sparkplugs are the problem? Coil it's ok also. I don't what else to do.

Oil inspection:
1. Metallic looking when drained or nice gold and clear?
2. Oil smell like oil/gas kind of blend?
3. Oil smell like burnt aluminum cooked in light sweet crude?

Post #5 says immediately pulled over when stops, yank a plug lead off, pocket plug plugged in and grounded, shows spark, right?

Next is... can feel the bike start to die, then close the petcock before you come to a stop. Now drain the bowl and see how much is there?

Condenser would arc the points blue if failed hot or cold. Don't think it would stall but misfire. But removing the points cover would show blue arc at idle.

All good diag comments above. Just as a long shot, make sure the vent on your gas cap is not blocked. My 350 had the same problem…ran for a bit then stopped. The vent hole in the gas cap was rusted and clogged. Happy after a good disassembly and cleaning.
