Hello, all,

My name is Finch and I'm excited to be a part of these forums!

I live just North of Austin, TX and have recently picked up a 1970 CL350K2 basket case. Frame looked good (from what I can tell), but the engine is completely dismantled, and has been for over a year. ? Additionally, the tank has more barnacles than St. Augustine, so I think it's beyond repair.

So to expedite my progress, I bought a complete 1969 CB350K1 (Type-1 on the side cover?) engine and a CB350 tank in good condition. The engine seems to be in good shape, and was running before I took it home, but needs a good cleaning.

My goals are to create a cafe build similar to the Cognito Moto "Fox CB350 Build," clean the engine and potentially overhaul everything in stages, then completely upgrade the electrical system, carbs, and suspension. Basically, I just want a reliable bike to cruise around town during nice weather, and something to admire in the garage during bad weather.

I've done a lot of small-engine repair, and some automotive work, and am generally pretty mechanically inclined, but I'm a beginner when it comes to motorcycles and their maintenance. Luckily, I'll have a "spare" engine for parts and to practice on while working on the good one.

Any advice y'all have will be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to a lot of wrenching.

Welcome Finch, and thanks for the proper introduction with pictures. You'll get all the advice and knowledgeable help you need here, just start a Project Log and post plenty of pictures so the community can point things out that you might miss or not be aware of, and pictures will help greatly in any diagnosis you need. As for the "Type 1" on the points cover, that's something Honda did in the early years to help differentiate the 180° crankshaft in most of our favorite twins from the 360° crankshaft arrangement in other engines of the day, like the CA77 (305 Dream). Some 350s were sold in Japan and possibly other locations outside the US with the 360° crankshaft arrangement (both pistons traveling up and down together) and their points covers had "Type II" on them

Awesome, That's good to know about the "Type 1."
I'll be sure to get a Project Log going in the next day or two.
