Has anyone had any issues with their head gasket not fitting right? I have a 71 SL350. I know I have it on the right way (tried other directions hoping it would fit better). My issues is that when I slide the gasket over the dowels, the gasket gets warped. I'm pretty sure I can just file out the holes in the gasket it fits better. Just curious if anyone has heard of this before? I can add some pictures tomorrow the help explain my issue as well. But for now, I'm going to bed...

Yes - Not all the Dies used to stamp them out are perfect.

It's OK to file the holes to make it lay flat.

The Key areas to keep centered are the Fire Rings around the mouth of the cylinders and any Oil Passages.

Excellent! That's just what I wanted to hear, Yendor. I did notice that the fire rings weren't completely centered either. Is there a good way to keep it centered on the piston opening once I adjust the gasket holes?

The Hollow Dowel Pins are the alignment guides that keep the entire stack of parts including the gasket all lined up.
