does anyone know how to remove the lock at bottom of steering stem? I'm replacing triple clamp and lock on old triple clamp doesn't work and I don't have a key for lock on replacement triple clamp. there is an outer cap at bottom that comes off by removing small screw, hoping lock barrel would then just fall out but does not. also, do these things just stop functioning after a while? seems like opening in top would allow for a lot of moisture and dirt to get inside.

If the version of the fork lock on the 400 is like the earlier ones, after you take the cover off you put the key in it as if to turn and lock it, but instead turn it and pull the cylinder forward out of the housing

As above. Insert key, turn key counter clockwise, pull key and cylinder out.
