I found a couple of Emgo coils in my garage. They're the british looking ones that look like miniature car coils.

My question is how to wire them. My guess is that the positive lead from the battery goes to the negative side of the coil and the points and condenser hook to the + side of the coil?

Meanwhile someone asked on a chevy truck forum about this and was told:

Bolt The Coil Bracket And Coil To The Block, The (neg) - Goes To The Distributor. The (pos) + Hooks To The Ignition.
So I'm trying to figure out if I'm backwards.

OK.

I was thinking of it like a circuit where you feed the output (+ side) to ground.

I'll reverse things and see what happens. I'm getting spark out of them backwards, but I think you run the risk of overheating the coils or get a weaker spark that way.
