Can someone with the factory manual tell me what the baseline setting for the fuel mix screws is? Ours is very boggy from 1500-4000 rpm and then it opens up with ease. It is remedied somewhat by pull the choke out part way.

The factory setting for the '79 T was 1 & 1/2 turns out....The '79 A was 1 & 3/4......The '80's were pre-set 2 full turns out...... So that's your range.......
The '79 and '80 bikes were particularly sensitive to air cleaner condition and specify replacement at 7,200 miles (paper) or cleaning/re-oiling every 3,600 miles (foam)... Oil with 90 wt gear oil.....
The fast idle lever must be adjusted with the carbs off, throttle-stop screw completely backed off until the throttle butterflys completely close, and adjusted (bent) for 1.2mm clearance between fast-idle lever and the throttle drum.............

Hope this info is what you needed..... Steve

Checked them tonight and mine were set at 3 turns out. I put them back to 1 1/2 and it made no discernible difference. I'm guessing I need to pull the carbs again and clean them out again as it seems very lean on the low end.

I've always referred to this chart when trying to determine what does what.

My KLX250S was very picky about where the idle air screw was. If I went more than the factory setting I could get more punch right off idle, but if it sat idling like at a stop light it would load up and stall. I assumed these carbs were similar but that doesn't seem to be the case.
