I just got a 1978 Honda CB400T II and have a question about the front brake light switch. The rear brake activates the brake light, but the front one does not.

Basically, I can't find it anywhere on the brake lever, nor can I find the connectors for it. Looking at the bottom of the brake lever, I see two bolts. One looks like the hinge point for the brake lever. The other one is just a bolt with no apparent purpose. At the moment, I am assuming that a hydraulic-pressure-based switch was once there but was removed (see picture)

What switch do I need for this brake lever? Where do I connect it to the harness?

Looks like it is #1. Goes on the front side.

That is the diagram for a 1978 Honda CB400T II, but I think my brake lever is different. Even if I bolt a switch like that to the bottom of the master cylinder, I don't see how it's button will be activated when the brake lever is pressed.

I suspect that this is what the switch should be if it's hydraulic-sensing?

Could the brake master cylinder be from another model where the hydraulic-sensing switch was in a different spot long the brake line?

Follow the brake line down to the splitter, see if the pressure switch is on the splitter like #4, #1 is the pressure switch.

No, there is nothing like that, though the diagram explains the potential absence of a switch on the master cylinder. My brake line goes directly to the caliper in one shot. I did find the connector for the brake switch - two wires coming off the starter/kill switch assembly, and it works, so that's good news.

I am considering two possibilities: a new brake master cylinder/clutch lever kit that includes the switch, or a banjo bolt pressure switch combo.. Which one is better? Do I have other options?

Update: Got this banjo bolt installed and connected to the two wires coming off the starter switch assembly. Bled the brakes and all is good!
