What is the best/easiest way to remove the old gasket from the bottom of the carb where the float bowl seats ?

It's pretty hard to get in there with anything !

Soak the area (not the entire carb) in xylol for a while - the old rubber will swell and detach by itself usually.
If that won't work, try acetone......

I had tried acetone & brake cleaner.

I finally took the smallest flat blade screwdriver out of a "percision" screwdriver set [since I have 2 sets I figured I could sacrifice 1, especially since I have 2 bikes to do]

Got the old gasket off with some very careful scraping.

I then "soda" blasted the whole [disassembled] carb.

Rinsed it well with warm water to remove the left over soda.

The carb looks great !

I used a homemade "*******" soda blaster.

I think somebody had posted this on the forum somewhere,

http://www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/

I'm impressed with the results !

Now I can rebuild it & then do the other. ;)

I got the right carb rebuilt today.

I had a tiny o ring & washer left & I couldn't figure out where they went.
[The Honda manual is not real detailed]

Thanks to searching the treads here I discovered they go on the air mixture adjustment needle.
The old ones had not came out so I took a small hook & gave them a little help & the old ones fell out.

[Unfortunatly I had damaged the new Oring so I had to use a old one.
If I have a problem adjusting it I will replace it.]

Now that I know how they go together I shouldn't have any problems with the left carb.
