I recently acquired a bike with a CB VIN on the frame, and on the engine.
However, every cosmetic detail (tank, side covers, exhaust, etc.) is that of a CL.
I am wondering if either the factory made an assembly error (unlikely), or a PO spent a lot of money back when all of these parts were available over the counter to convert it (also unlikely, why not just buy a CL).
Which do you think is most likely?

All the stuff bolts on, easy enough to do.

Honda doesn't make mistakes like that.
Did a PO also swap the footpeg bracket I wonder. The CB has space for the exhaust pipes, the CL is much closer in ... to the point the foot peg bracket has to be dropped to remove the shift lever. Also the left side passenger peg has an extension piece so a passengers leg clears the mufflers.

Other than the ‘73 models, the CL had a different fork, and all years had a different front fender, braced handlebars, and a 19” front wheel. Are those items CL parts, too?

Thanks to all of you for your questions. It will be good to find out how far the PO took the switch. I will check it out soon.
