I was wondering if I could use a different carburetors off of another 78-81 400cc parallel twin on my 81 cb400t. Will I have to manually readjust the carburetors idle and jets to run optimally on my 81 cb400t or could I simply use the Clymer specifications on the particular carburetor model then slap them onto my cb400t engine?

You may want to swap the jets from your current carbs into the transplants as they used several different combinations. CB had different jets than CM and they each had different jets in different years.

As you can see my old ones are much too oxidized to use, but your telling me if I go on ebay and buy carburetors from another 400cc parallel twin (say, 78 cb400t or 81 cm400) they should just fit right in, except for the obvious jet adjustment, idle adjustment, fuel/air mixture screw adjustment. Therefore, I shouldn't worry about loosing power or ruining my engine, so long as the jet's, etc. are properly adjusted.
