1979 CB400T II, I changed the oil and filter today on a bike that sat for 15 years.
As you would expect there was no washer between the filter and the spring.
The FSM says 3 quarts and the dip stick says that is too much. Later I find in the FSM that it holds 2.6 quarts.
Does it have too much oil in it??? So how much oil does it really hold???

How much did you put in? When you use the dip stick don't screw it in to check the level. Unscrew it, wipe the dip and stick in to the top of the threads. If the manual says 2.6 quarts and you put in 3 quarts, then there is too much oil in it and you should remove some. Otherwise you will run the risk of blowing out an oil seal.

2.6 is correct for an oil/filter change, the 3.2 number is for a new/rebuilt engine. Wonder where that missing .6 quarts is? It's in the camshaft oil baths up in the head for the most part.
Also be sure the bike is upright, on center stand preferably.

Both numbers are in the FSM, I saw the 3 quarts first but when it seemed to be too full
I searched further and found the 2.6 number. And yes, I do know how to check the oil correctly.
I put in 3 quarts, got to drain some oil out. Thanks for the responses.
