in the middle of setting points on a 76 cb200t...
I've got it set so that my test light comes on just as the F mark is meeting the mark on the engine crankcase. But, the light does not come on solid and stay on at that point--it goes on, but then off, then on again, then off, and then it stays on solid (but by the time it's on solid, I'm past the F mark and, instead, the T mark is lining up with the mark on the engine case). Is that right, or should i set it so that the light comes on SOLID and STAYS on at the F mark? It seems that the points are slightly opening, but then closing once or twice before they stay open...hence the flicker in the test light...
THANKS!
Tony

Assuming you set the point gap first - sounds like a bad point to me.
You might try sanding them a bit with folded emery cloth or something first.
The flickering is not good.....

thanks, bill! much, much appreciated. i had a feeling this was abnormal. in fact, if i look closely enough, i can actually see the points slightly, slightly opening/moving apart then closing, then slightly, slightly opening/moving apart again. makes sense that the light is flickering! i'll try smoothing out these points, or just replace them...
