CM400T - Wrong Carb

852 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  ancientdad
Hi, I have a 1981 CM400T that I bought off of Craigslist. I have began replacing the airbox with pod filters and have come across an issue with my carburetor. the carburetor I have is not the original carb. it's actually off of a CM450E. I had, what I thought was, the right size jets to rejet the carb for the air filters, but now they are useless. does anyone with a CM450E know what size jets I need to accommodate for pod filters?

this is my bike

You'll get responses from the SOHC 400/450 series crowd soon enough, so while you wait why don't you properly introduce yourself to the community so we can get to know you and your bike to be of better help in the future. First, take a look at this and then go here to post an Introduction - thanks
Both bikes use VB22 carbs so whatever jets you have will work pretty much the same. A brief study of this would be a good place to start:

Are you messing with the carbs that work on there now for a reason?

You don't replace the air box. You can remove the engineered Honda part and use pods but regardless of what you do they will never work as well as what came on it from the factory. The world has plenty of old Honda's that ran great for decades before being hacked up and fitted with pods.

It looks like a good bike. Bring it up to snuff and ride it.
