I blew it! Quite literally. It was leaking oil, and I told myself she would last one more ride. Oops.

I got a new gasket kit, and would like to change it. I really don't know where to start. Well, I know where to start (take of the seat and tank dummy!). But I will be slow going after that.

I know I need a piston ring compressor.
I know I need to drain the oil (if there is any left)!
I know I should use a torque wrench to tighten down any bolt, especially if it has a specified torque rating

Any other good tips and tricks are open an appreciated.

Also, if anyone is in the Ventura, CA area and would like to swing by for a few beers, your in person expertise is welcome as well! PM me!

Good point(s). Do you have the Honda Shop Manual? I'll send you a PM just in case.

Where was/is the leak located? (pictures would help) Did the engine lock up? Will it turn over now?

Depending on your level of experience and how many tools you will need to acquire this may be more of a project than you want to take on alone. Hopefully your search for a member near you will work out.

A ring compressor to change the head gasket? You should only need to remove the tappet cover and head unless you are referring to the gasket below the jug.
