Ronnie it's not that much better than the 450 has...just more modern components....The Battery amperage is the limiting value to my thinking....

Both HSM and Clymer say that at 5000rpm you should be supplying a 5 amp charge to the battery with the headlight on high beam.

If you can find handwarmers that will use 5 amps or less :?: and you can keep the revs up around 5k most of the time :p your battery won't go dead right away

It sounds like there may be some extra juice to play with on the highway but we're using most of whats there already driving around town.

I'd be interested in what you get for results if you decide to give it a try.

Ok...Let's assume the entire 5 amp charging current is available...Since W = A x V, and we have 12V, that gives a maximum of 60W available... Minus flow/resistance losses, let's call it 55W to be safe.......But you'll have to keep it at 5000 RPM or above to maintain or exceed that... (just keep the net charging at zero)... Since electrical generation is a logarithmic factor of the rotor speed, the 1100 RPM idle would only produce about 38% of that....... You are looking for a 21W max accessory......which is about a taillight bulb in heating ability.......
