Hey, i have an 81 cm400 I bought for 250 dollars and when I got it running I found that the clutch slips really bad, so I put all new friction plates and steel plates in it and it still slips, I was wondering if there was an adjustment I didnt know about, thanks.

I recently bought an '80 cm400t also. I am running into similar problems. We took apart the clutch and measured all the friction plates according to the service manual, but they are all at manual spec (not even down to the limit). The clutch shaft appears straight. We cannot find any visible reason why the clutch is having issues. The springs are about a mm off from the manual specs, so we will add washers to see if that helps, but other than that we can't figure out what's wrong.
I'll let you know if we find anything

Have you tried loosening the clutch cable, to rule out a possible adjustment issue?
