I replaced my throttle shaft seals and noticed a machined step on the butterfly valve when reassembling. I do not know which way this is supposed to be oriented. Please advise.

I always look for the bevel on the edges, that bevel must sit flush with the bore. In fact, when you reassemble, you'll have to center the butterfly on the shaft, which will then establish the orientation and exact alignment location in the bore.

To late now but a mark with a black marker pen on the intake side before taking them out works for me. Just saying.

There is a small machined flat spot on one side of each butterfly. It is milled to half thickness or so on approximately the red area of this example throttle plate . I have never seen this before... how should this be oriented?

Well, it should be more centered, but that goes facing engine , at the bottom, just at the three holes.....

I got it fixed, the machined flat needs to be facing away from the engine on the bottom. Idles perfectly now!!
