Can I take the left side engine cover off as one piece to replace the gasket?

sure you can. might have to loosen/remove exhaust and footpegs.

^^^and front sprocket cover, though that might have been obvious... if you're going to replace the alternator cover gasket, you should clean the grommet where the stator wires come out of the cover and put a little sealer around the grommet before putting it back in the groove in the cover. The rubber of the grommet gets hard with age and it can leak oil there if not, just be cautious and don't use sealer to excess

Ok cool thanks. I have most everything else off the bike its getting winter work done.

Those screws are in there good, I can't get any to budge and its a small weap, I am not sure its worth the potential issues try to remove the stuck screws.

Sounds like you need an impact driver.

Also, would really like to see some pictures of the steed.

Buy an impact driver, some #3 apex bits, and Kroil off Amazon. Let those screws soak a bit after shooting with Kroil, and give them a good whack with the driver. They'll come out.
