Hi everyone,

I've seen a few posts about exhaust systems but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. Though, there's a lot of good material on this site I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.

I need to replace the exhaust (pipes, manifold, muffler) on my CJ360T. I was hoping to keep it stock but it's too expensive or sketchy a prospect. I want a quiet(-ish), well performing and unobtrusive replacement for stock. The trouble I'm having isn't so much with the muffler but more with the downpipes/manifold.

I'm willing to stay 2 into 1 or go 2 into 2.

I noticed someone mentioned in another post that if the 2 into 1 was replaced with a 2 into 2 then it would be an easy fix. Can anyone confirm this? There's a cross-over pipe between the stock mufflers of a 2 into 2, would then get in the way of anything if installed on a CJ360T?

Would rather not re-jet if I don't have to and am under the impression that stock Honda exhaust is awesome (performance wise) so would prefer going that route. Just not sure what models the replacements can come from.

Thanks for any help. Great forum btw.

Keep the rubber to the ground.

The CJ was just a cost-reduced version of the CB360, minus the 6-speed gearbox and electric start, and with a drum instead of a disc up front. They were only made for two years so many vendors just ignore the model designation. The styling was mild café to begin with, with a seat cowl and 2-into-1 exhaust. The engine and frame are the same as the CB/CL, so you won’t have any problem with aftermarket parts. One thing to look out for: 350/360 twins were notorious for oil starvation on the top end. Since the steel camshaft ran directly in the alloy of the head, it would wear the aluminum down, causing timing, valve clearance and chain tension issues. If you find you can’t get the valve clearance adjusted to spec, it’s a good sign the cam has worn into the head. If the points cam rubs on the timing plate, or it’s hard to get the gap right on one set of points, that’s another sign. You can still find good cam blocks, and some folks have taken the worn blocks and had them machined for needle bearings, so there are options for repair if you find damage.

Here are some photos. As you can see, I'm in a bit of a bind.
I think for now I'm going to have the muffler cut off (it's toast), a pipe welded on to the 2int1 chamber, and then a Supertrapp installed so I can dial in the performance without having to re-jet.
At least until I can find a better replacement.
Still looking for some advice if it's out there.

If you are looking for a restoration, I have a stock muffler I can live without. If you Re just looking for a viable exhaust, MAC makes a 2-1 that fits this bike. I just cut off the step down where it meets the collector and installed a reverse cone. I doubt you will be able to get a non 2-1 to work without some extensive modification because the brake lever is quite different and the cross over brackets holding the exhaust to the frame. Just out of curiosity, I tried putting my girlfriends CB exhaust on my CJ and it was a serious no go.

Hi all,
Cable Metalworking hand tool

Just a quick update. Am having a EMGO megaphone fitting to the stock collector for now. Will replace with a completely new stainless steel fabricated exhaust system in the fall. It's coming from the UK so will have to wait a while. The chap putting it together tells me there's no carb tuning to be done.

Yeah, I have a CJ parts bike that came with an Emgo universal megaphone welded to the end of the collector.
It actually doesn't look too bad. They could have gotten the angle better.

One of the reasons I bought my other CJ was just because it had a stock muffler in really good condition.

My new exhaust system arrived yesterday from Predator Motorsports in the UK. Am happy with them, if they work well I'll be even happier. The welds are nicely done and from what I can see of the inside, there's some thought put into it. Will keep you posted.

That's a modded MAC on that cafe/tracker? Happy with it? Pros/cons?
