The original cable on my '81 CM400a was broken when I bought my bike. I decided to go with the motion pro choke cable as a replacement (#02-0158). This cable does not have the detents that allow the cable to be easily set in predetermined positions. I knew this before buying the cable but didn't think much of it. Well, unfortunately this new cable wont hold the return spring tension of the choke. You have to keep the choke pulled out for it to be on. I have tightened the plastic nut that closes on the collet that is supposed to create resistance to the choke knob, but no amount of tightening does it. Even all the way bottomed out. Its mostly worthless!
So this puts me on the hunt for a good used or NOS choke cable. I noticed that the cable I ordered from Motion Pro for my 1981 Honda CM400A is also listed as being compatible with a pretty large number of other bikes, about 40! So i'm thinking all these bikes share the same choke cable? I found a nice NOS cable thats reasonably priced for a 1979/1980 CX500C that i'd like to buy. I figure it may work because the cx500 is listed as being compatible with the same cable as my bike if you went aftermarket. So I looked up the part numbers for both bikes (babbits online) choke cables hoping to find that they were the same, and unfortunately my bike is part# 17950-448-000 and the cx500 part# 17950-415-000. SO does this mean CX500 choke cable will not fit? Being able to get a cable from a different model really opens up the pool of used cables, and also brings up several other NOS ones as well!
Anybody out there know about this choke cable part interchange info?
Thanks!

Can't speak to any cross-reference cable, but here's a used one on eBay - but you'd have to email the seller and ask for a picture of the knob itself to see if it says "choke" on it, as the aftermarket versions have the choke symbol on them best I can tell

thanks for that link, i'm hoping i can use the NOS cable advertised for a '79/80 cx500. Its only $20. I have asked for a picture of the cable stretched out next to a tape measure but that may be asking alot

I don't know why there's a different part number for the A model. I think that any of the CM 400/450 cables will work fine. Might be a length issue, shorter or longer.
I did come across this part number super secession from the 447 (CM400/450's) to 448 (A model)
17950-448-000 (replaces 17950-447-000)
The CB400 has 413 as the model code but there's no number change

Huh, Thanks for that info. Looks like I should just stick with the cm and cb variants you listed LDR just to be sure!
