Thank you for your quick reply.

This might be important.
I’m grounding the unit to the battery box and the baterry box and frame are separated with rubber (3 holes with rubber).
This cloud be an issue?
The older rectifier was instaled in the same place..

As for the regulator I’ve disconnect all 3 wires (black, yellow and ground).

Yes that sounds like the issue, the old unit was grounded via the wiring harness, green is ground. You can just put a ring terminal on the green wire and put it under one of the bolts that holds the reg/rec unit down. That should suffice for the unit to work.

okay. let's see if I understood.

(1) Stock Rectifier was mounted on the battery box (in front of the carburators/beetween air filter).
(2) Place the rec/reg in the same place (1) and ground the unit under the bolt that holds the unit.

whats the concept behind being "grounded via the wiring harness"?
if the above (1+2) does not work. is probably something in wiring between the unit and .... ? battery? where should i look for?

thank you,
G

Green wires in the harness go to ground. If a plug has a green terminal like the rectifier should have it will go to ground. These new units were designed for kohler lawnmower/tractor/stationary engines and were bolted right to the side of the engine with no rubber mounting so the ground was the engine.

hey all,

following some photos, description & readings:

Stock Regular taken off.
Hand Wire

Stock Rectifier taken off.
Motor vehicle Auto part Vehicle Automotive exterior Car

Reg/Rec in place.
Wire Auto part Technology Cable Electronic device

Electrical wiring Wire Auto part Vehicle Engine

got 12,26 on the battery with engine running.
there's no increasing on battery voltage...

(unpluged the stator got 12,26. pluged the stator same reading...)

Charging mod
connected white+yellow straight from stator plug (tested continuity between each end to see if it was the right wires).

ligths working fine but when on low bean got high beam light on handle bar - why is that?

"ligths working fine but when on low bean got high beam light on handle bar - why is that?".
Bad ground, unplug the headlight bulb and the high beam light will go out.

Ok, thanks.
Does this influence the low(no) charging issue?
If not what should I look for?
Is there a way to test reg/rec output? Just to see if it's working or not.

With the stator unplugged, and the bike idling, what is the AC voltage reading between these wires on the stator:

Pink to yellow
Yellow to white
White to pink

Repeat the measurements at 3000 RPM. You might need an extra set of hands.
hey,

these were my readings.

Battery
Fully Charged: 13,60V
after 1hour: 13v
key on: 12.60

[email protected] rpms
[email protected] rpms

AC measured on Baterry (?) is this possible?
[email protected] 2100 rpms & 5000 rpms

Stator:

Continuity test

type of test:
Ω 200 & continuity sound test

R: pink + yellow (1) 01.8 & pink + yellow (2) 01.0. no continuity between pink + yellow w/ red stripe.

Continuity to ground
type of test:
Ω 200 & continuity sound test

R: yellow w/ red stripe + stator case 00,7. no continuity in the other wires.

AC Output
pink + yellow (1): [email protected] idle (bike warm) [email protected] rpm
pink + yellow (2): [email protected] idle (bike warm) [email protected] rpm
(Engine on with reading on the stator plug side.)

As far as i know:
i)Plenty of AC output from Stator
ii)Charging Mod done rigth, although might be a grounding problem -> "ligths working fine but when on low bean got high beam light on handle bar - why is that?". mike in idaho replied "Bad ground, unplug the headlight bulb and the high beam light will go out." - got to check this if it's the problem.
iii)Rec/Reg grounded to the harness.

What am I missing here?
(please check previous post i've uploaded some photos)

Thanks,
G

There should not be a yellow with a red stripe coming from your stator. That's for the activation of the solenoid and is a completely different circuit.

If you do have a yellow/red coming from the stator, you've got some investigation to do as things have probably been tinkered with by a previous owner.

Please check and verify that there is no yellow with a red stripe. The four wires in the stator plug should be pink, yellow, white, and light/green with a red stripe. The light green / red wire is for the neutral switch and can be ignored since it doesn't have anything to do with the charging system.

It does look like you're getting good AC readings at the stator, though. Check the readings again at the R/R to make sure you don't have a wiring issue.

If that all checks out OK, it's time for a new R/R.

I recommend the Sparck Moto unit. It was specifically designed for the Honda twins.

the wire that appears to be yellow with red is probably the neutral switch wire that is originally green with red, and the green is probably faded as those always seem to do coming out of the alternator cover
hey guys,

thank you for all of the messages.

yes the wire with red strip is neutral, unplugging it the light in handlebar goes off.

to identify if reg/rec is giving output should in read: (+) on the output pin of the reg/rec and (-) on ground (i.e. cover engine or frame)?

thank you,
G

CB400n questood

Hi guys

I’ve got a CB400N with a shindengen r/r and want to convert to the lithium battery suitable Kohler, however the wires puzzles.

Most have gone from a radio shack 4 wire (yellow, pink, red, green) which is a plugnplay. However my shindengen has 6 wires - red/white, green, black and 3 yellow. Anyone done this conversion before me and how did you wire

I'm no expert so take this with a grain of salt but it is my understanding that if you are going to use a lithium ion battery you must us a mosfet reg/rec or you risk an electrical fire.
