I'm riding a '72 cb450 twin. I have some components of a '78 cb550 four, which includes the fuel tank. I'd love to have more fuel capacity. would the 550 tank fit on my 450 without any major problems?

The tank will mount, but your CL seat is too long for a CB tank.
Similarly, a CL tank with a CB seat leaves an ugly gap between seat/tank.

The 500/550 tank is a very nice shape, much nicer than the bulbous CB450 tank - but I can't say if it would work or not.
