I am running into an engine noise issue that I can't seem to find a solution to. My engine was idling high after warming up so I adjusted the idle down and now I am getting a noise that sounds like a semi high pitched scrape.

Has anybody ran into a similar noise issue?

Thanks,
Morgan

I agree with Lefty. What is the history on the engine? When did the noise start? I would pull the valve covers and make sure the cams are getting oil. I would also look at the cam chain and tensioner.

And check your starter motor clutch isn't driving your starter motor....

I lean more toward what Nigel brought up - it sounds like an intermittent chattering noise to me, possibly the starter clutch partially sticking. Might try rocking the bike backwards (engine off, of course) in 2nd or 3rd gear to rotate the engine backwards a bit, maybe disengage the starter clutch rollers and then kick start it to see if the noise changes. Sounds like valve tick in the background too, possibly. Also, if your tach is cable driven that could be the sound of a squeaky, chattering dry tach cable
