I have a 70 CB450K3 and the splines on my shift shaft have been almost completely worn down. I was wondering if I needed to split the cases in order to replace the shaft or if there is an easier way to go about it.
You could fit the shifter on the shaft and drill a hole along the worn splines. The drill should split the shaft and shifter leaving a 1/2 hole in each. Then a tight fitting pin will hold it. You can swap it out in the frame without splitting the cases if you so desire too.
