Hi all,

My CB450 K5 is a reasonably new rebuild and it runs quite well at low revs but when I accelerate over 5000 it can start to sputter and lurch. Last time I took it out to the mountains it blew a fuse, but I'm not sure if that's related.

It also takes a few kicks to get started and the right cylinder seems to struggle a bit. I just tuned/balanced the carbs as best I could so hopefully it starts up a bit easier in future, but when I took it for a ride it still began to sputter around 5000. Any ideas?

It's relatively stock (I'll try to upload a photo), with a Pamco, original carbs and pod air filters. I'm trying to solve as many problems myself as possible to learn how the bike works rather than go to a mechanic each time, so would be great to get some guidance

Thanks!

Pod air filters.

Do you still have the stock air filters? If so try those and see if the bike responds better.
CB450/500T's are known to have issues running with pods.

Thanks 76Twin, yes I do, although the filter paper is pretty old and hard. Its just one cylinder that seems to be the problem so might adjust the carb again and see if I can get some improvements

David,
It is nearly impossible to balance the Kehien CV Vacuum piston carbs with pod airfilters. Ditch them and replace the paper with oiled foam. We have the same bike. I'm running a carfully timed PAMCO setup. Watch this:

David,

If you're dead set on pods then I think you will be in for a frustrating venture trying to get this bike to run right :)
Just rip the paper off the stock filters and replace it with oiled foam like Jim stated above
