(This is the best pic I have available right now)
My thought is to remove the metal lip and clips at the bottom of the tank that the plastic chrome trim is mounted on. I looks as if it is spot welded on to the bottom of the tank and the tank would be much "cleaner" without it.
Has anyone done this with success or am I asking for trouble?
(that would be a reason to buy a cb200 tank! )

The chrome strip comes off easy enough but you can not easily remove the seam that the strip is covering. If you grind that off you'll be leaking fuel everywhere. I suppose anything thing is doable but this one would take a lot of fabrication and welding skill.

I agree with Mike. I gave this a shot last year trying to take the lip off of a k6 tank. I "thought" I was being very carefull in my grinding but it was one leaky sucker when I was through. after that I removed the emblems and gas cap for the parts bin and the tank was trashed. If you want a lipless tank check into a k3 tank and I think the k4's also were free of the lip and chrome.
