Hi - can you advise what other Honda tank might fit an 81 CB400N without having to modify the frame ? Thanks

Great - I was hoping the CM400 would fit - not sure I'll change it yet - but good to know !

I was hoping to get some clarification as I have been reading on this after picking up a 1980 CB400n. Will a 74 CB450 tank fit on the 1980 Cb400n? Hoping to find a tank more suitable for the scrambler look.
Direct swap is the CB/CM 400/450 models, not the CB450SC which has a different front mount setup

Thanks in advance!

I suspect it won't, as the 400 series frame has a wider backbone than earlier models.

It might, the SOHC frame width at the wide part is 4 inches. This picture of the bottom of a '74 CB450 looks pretty wide.

I was hopeful as I love the shape of that tank. I see some guys using the CM tanks which also look pretty good. I thought if the 450 tanks was a little too wide that would be an easier mod than a tank that is too narrow.

It might "Frisco mount", but the 450 backbone is only about 1.5" in diameter.......Just my $0.02.....

Plus, IMO that's a big tank for a scrambler-styled bike - to me, an older CL450 tank would be more like it

I hadn't seen a CL450 until I just looked it up, I agree, that tank would be ideal. Makes me wonder what would be involved in getting one on the 400n?
