I do mine at ~90 crankshaft degrees CCW past left cylinder TDC mark (LT) on its compression stroke......

Remove the Valve adjustment cap covers and make sure all (4) valves are loose and have ZERO Tension.

That's where you MUST be to adjust the cam chain tensioner.
Any other position and you are pushing a rope uphill.

Zero tension would be determined with feeler gauges?

No feeler gauge needed - just see if all 4 rocker arms move a tiny bit with your fingers. If so, there's no tension on them.
