In making a new loom, the wiring diagram is clear....except for this stray ground connection. See photo.

Is it just an extra ground connection for future use?

Just wondering if I need to include this connection in the new loom. I just wire up a new regulator/rectifier combo and was able to eliminate some wires. Satisfying!

Also found a mystery black wire splice in from the main black line It doesn’t lead to any connection in the wiring diagram. Anyone know what’s going on here?

It would help to see the whole diagram.

Both wires are extra, green is ground(located inside the headlight). The black wire is unused, key switched voltage, for the older type starter circuit.

Sweet. Thanks, Mike in Idaho! I find the vestiges of history really interesting.

Is there a specific place to get new wiring? I am no electrician but I would like to attempt a new loom at some point.

I used https://4rcustomswire.com and changed all my bullet connectors to 3.9mm from the stock 4mm to make it more “up to date”. I could just buy it in bulk because I knew I’d be making mistakes and needed practice. The triple socket ones I did buy from vintage connections and just widened the sockets. Probably not the best practice though.
