so long story short, i need a new speedo for my '72 cl350. i've found some decent ones on ebay but then i remembered that the cb/cl's had different front tire sizes. I was wondering if a cb speedo would work fine on a cl with a 19 front tire? I'm hoping that maybe the speedo gears on these two bikes are different or something so it will work fine? thanks for the help!

Speedo's are the same....different diameter wheels have different ratios in their speedo drives' internal gearing to compensate for wheel size.......Unless you relaced an 18" hub to a 19" rim, this won't be a problem.....

to build off of this.... if I wanted to get modern gages for my bike (78 CB400T2), how would I go about doing that?

MOST japanese bikes run the same ratio speedo's... An XS650 speedo will read correctly connected to a Honds 350 or 450 wheel.... What speedo specificly are we discussing/...There are MANY "newer" ones....
