I pulled the carbs off of my 72 & am ready to soak them in carb cleaner.

On the carb caps there is a white nylon looking "button" in the center.
Will the carb cleaner hurt it ?
Should I just leave it out of the cleaner ?

Yes, the cleaner could hurt it.... just wipe out the bell with a soft rag....

I decided to clean the carb cap wit 00 steel wool.
Seems to have worked pretty good.

" You also need to take out both the choke and throttle flapper assemblies - there are nylon and felt washers......."

I'm a little late on that.
The right carb has been in the cleaner for a couple of hours. :(

I'm going to the shop to take it out & rinse it.

Hopefully the carb rebuild kits I got from Retro Bike will have all I need.

If not I will pull the carbs off of the 73 CL & worry about it when I start on that one. ;)

I know this is an old post I am jumping on but have run into the problem addressed here. I soaked my carbs in carb cleaner for several days and unknowingly destroyed the felt washers that are sort of pressed into the bodies.

I am sure this has been addressed more than once here but did a search and could not find it. What material is recomended to press back in the slots to seal around the choke and throttle body shafts? I would guess wool yarn would do it but if any of you have better recomendations I would like to hear them.
