Turned the key to lift the seat and nothing happened.

Was able to remove the hinge pins, tilt the seat, and get enough room to remove the part of the lock that attaches to the seat.

Got the lock off and many pieces came out of it! It failed at the end of the lock cylinder that moves the latch that hooks the seat pin. Hard to explain.....hope someone know what I'm talking about! :D

Oh yeah..'72 350 K4

Looks like a NOS one can be had for $50. Also watching Ebay and have a few feelers out to some local boneyards.

Has anyone solved a broken seat lock another way? You know, the Mcgyver way? :lol:

Well, guess this isn't really an electrical issue. lol

Mods, feel free to move it to Mechanical. lol

Remove seat lock entirely. Fab some rubber bumpers to allow seat to rest normally / level. Glue them somewhere in there... Do without seat lock. No one's going to steal your battery... :)

Any Honda seat lock of the same type can be altered by swapping the "pins" that "key" it ....... (I assume you have the one that bolts onto a tab with two "Phillips" screws)......I'll look and see what's laying around my junkyard....

Thanks. I do have the lock with the two Phillips screws. I also have the lock pins out, but afraid they have gotten shuffled around on the bench. If I repair this one to use the key, it's going to be a puzzle getting the different sized pins in the right order for the key to work :lol:

Just two "pins" are more than sufficient to "work" the lock so that your key is the likeliest to open it (but not the only one that will)..... You'll have the same "sorting" to do with the replacement lock, so save those original "pins" and springs..... Actually, there is no real reason that you have to have it "fixed" (with the pins) other than enough that SOME key has to be inserted to open it.......I generally just use one "pin" somewhere near the middle of the cylinder, but you can use as many or as few as feels right for you.....You just trial fit until inserting the key pulls them all down flush
