I ran mine back on the left side but it does seem to slide towards the middle when it passes under the engine mounts. Im not sure that its too critical, as long as it doesn't foul any moving parts or get to hot from the engine.
I'm sure that there are difinitive answers to be had, if you going to be absolutly critical and go for concourse finish. But I just enjoy riding mine so I was not too worried about being absolutly correct.
I even replaced the standard selenium rectifier (which was duff anyway) with a new electronic rectifier regulator that does not use the battery as ballast. Not original I know, but far superior, the link is following. http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/rr2-regu ... 239-0.html
They also helped with the wiring mods. A great company. Mike was the guy I spoke with he was most helpful.
