So, digging into my CL project I found the cylinder fins are buggered up real bad.

I am wondering, is it possible to heat them up and bend them back into shape? I cant see this working because it is cast, seems like it would be weak and break. Any one here done this?

This is mostly just aesthetic, so if I cant do this anyone got a 450 head for sale?

Thanks

I would not try heat. Depending on how much they are bent you may be able to straighten them. Honda uses high zinc aluminum alloy for their castings. It is strong (hardness) and light weight. This allows thinner wall thickness than what you see in British bikes. That is why they will not hold a polish without clear coating.

Well I removed the head and the fins are done for IMO. They have significant cracks on the underside, so if I attempt to bend them back I am positive they will break.

Problem is solved, I should have a new head in the mail next week

Thanks

Keep us informed on your progress. My 450 has the same problem. I have a replacement head for when it gets moved to the front burner.

I need to start a project thread to document my build.

Pistons are almost free from their rusty tombs!
