I have a sealed type battery I'd like to use, but the battery is too long. Is it possible to make some cuts to the housing to make it fit?

That's probably a long shot. You could re-locate the battery and get it to fit but you're much better off finding a battery by dimensions. There is a website that has the batteries by dimensions but I can't remember where it is.
