In messing around with my bike today, I noticed that there is vapor spewing out of the hose that leads from the valve cover. I double checked the valves to make sure they aren't too tight as per the method posted on this website. I noticed that when the valves are adjusted too tight, the vapor gets worse, setting them loose lessens the vapor, but it doesn't disappear. So does this sound like I have a bad valve or two that aren't sealing well? no tools available to test compression, but I plan to check it this week at the local shop.

Also be SURE to turn off the fuel petcock EVERY time you park......These older bikes tend to seep past the shut-off needles in the carbs , overfilling the carbs, and the fuel ends up mixed with the oil... (not good)..... An easy check is to smell the dipstick..... ANY fuel smell, change the oil before restarting engine....
The compression test is a must......If you are "burning" the oil,(engine flame getting past the rings) that's a problem as well.......
