Hi guys, my CB400A has suddenly started losing power, the engine will speed up but I'm getting little to no effect on speed/acceleration.
I can feel it catching occasionally, as well as kangarooing a bit but for the most part I can get to around 20 mph in 1st, while doing possibly twice the rpms it should, and maybe coax it to 45-50 mph in 2nd and that's it.

The oil was a little low but I topped that up, not that I think that was an issue, and apart from some carb tuning that she probably needs, she's not in that bad of a shape, mechanically.

Anyone any thoughts, while I try to dig out the manual.
Cheers, Jim

The last CB 400 A was made in 1979. That being said if it is a cb400 A Does the motor Idle and rev ok when in neutral ? If so its probably low oil pressure at the torque converter. Drain the oil, remove the right side cover, change out the oil pressure relief valve , change out the oil filter. Is the motor clean inside? Refill with only 10-40 motorcycle oil .If that doesnt do it you will have to go a little deeper.
