Thanks for checking. Curious how I went from problems with the timing, to needing a new cam shaft?
Here is my theory(s): I decided to become a "test pilot" by not using the specified lubricant for the points advancer shaft. The lubricant in question gave enough space between the advancer and the shaft allowing it to shake the bolt holding everything together loose and the mechanism came off the shaft destroying itself and the shaft.
....but I guess it might be that I didn't use enough torque on the bolt in the first place!
Ironically enough, I was in the parking lot of a Home Depot when I discovered the poor little crunched metal bits behind the points cover...
