Picked up a 450 and I'm going to try to get it running. This is my first one. The air cleaners are really bad shape (old and dirty) what are you guys doing for air cleaners or filters? Omni, Uni's or something like that? I'd like to keep my covers on though so I don't have the big hole in the side. Thanks for the help.

thanks Bill! also, I'm trying to find a cafe racer seat, finding lots of options for 750's but not much for 450's. Any ideas? Also looking for new gauge decals. Thanks for your help.
These guys say this fits 450 kind of pricey though

I ordered the filters! Thanks for the links guys. This is my first bike so I'm learning as I go. Here's the story; bought the bike in November and had the carbs rebuilt, it ran good. Then I let it sit all winter, now it doesn't run. Battery is charged, it will turn over but just won't catch. Sprayed starter fluid in carbs, will catch a little bit but won't run. Going to take it to a bike mechanic because I just don't know where to begin. But here's what else I want to do:

- cream the inside of the tank
- paint the tank
- new custom exhaust that will look like this 750 of carpy's http://www.cb750cafe.com/bikes.php?cat=1&id=24
- put on the uni filters
- get a cafe seat, paint seat, mount on bike, also paint side covers while at it

I've heard that if you put uni's and a custom exhaust on a bike you have to rejet the carbs, so I might as well get the exhaust and uni's on it, then take it to the mechanic so he can get the whole thing running. Any other tips or suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Not necessarily - 450's are particularly forgiving.
Try your changes first, get some plug "readings", see how it goes.
You may not have to change anything......

In the meantime, check your compression, engine warm, throttle wide open, NO CHOKE.
Do it a couple of times to be sure.

Invest no money or time until you know the compression !!!

Good advice there. Also, if it's your first bike - don't jump into modifying it just yet. Take a season (or two) and ride the thing! You may find out that you really don't like riding motorcycles and if that's the case you won't be left with trying to sell a chopped-up, half-running bike.

can you point me in the direction of where I be able to read up on how to check the compression. Any special tools one needs for that?

As before, "In the meantime, check your compression, engine warm, throttle wide open, NO CHOKE."

You need to borrow or rent or buy a compression gauge.
