I am getting some of the parts on my 71 CB350 ready to be powdercoated. Before I go pounding on anything, I wanted to reach out the forum — any advice on separating the steering stem from the lower triple clamp?

I don't think they come apart. When I PCd mine I did not take anything apart - save from the bottom steering race and the bottom seal (where the ball bearings go).

To take off the bottom race I used a propane torch and heated up the seat and then used a brass punch to tap it off the main spindle. Then I cleaned it up and taped off the areas I didn't want coated.

Just mask off the areas you don't want powder coating. After you've removed the races. Just like ScramblerCurtis says. Do use a high temp masking tape, as regular tape will char when you cook the parts.
Also use high temp silicone bungs to protect the threads, if you use bolts, they will protect the threads, but damage the PC when you remove them.
