I've posted this once before but as there was no response I've concluded that I'm either extremely uninteresting, this has been answered before (I cannot find it), or I just chose a poor time to post and it was buried under other posts. I have 2 questions:

1. What do the different numbers on the two "fat cams" mean, but more importantly, are they interchangeable?
2. Can anything be done in regard to the stripped threads on the cam below, I expect were a result of the lack of oil reaching the cam and journal?

Over-heating Issues for Reference:

Any input would be greatly appreciated as I'm at the point where I'm ready to reassemble.

The numbers are inconsequential in this example, the cam with the worn/bad tach drive threads is trash, (bearing journals gone as well as lobe "burning") and you NEED to replace the Head cover that houses the tach drive as well....(at LEAST THAT ONE)
Before ANY assembly, Have you solved/found/fixed the lack of lubrication problem that caused this to begin with?

Thanks Steve, we've actually spoken before. You educated my friend and I about the dreaded Daichi points and the issues that accompany them. I've solved the oiling issue which stemmed from a blocked passage. I've gone into the bottom end, cleaned out the 40 years of sludge, and have reassembled the bottom end. I've had the cylinders honed, new rings installed and cleaned the pistons well.

When you refer to the head cover are you referring to the portion of the engine that sits on top of the cylinder and houses the cam?

No.... Honda calls the points and tach housings "head covers", so I use that ...I prefer to think of them as cam bearing blocks.....

Thanks, I've replaced the one pictured above but have noticed the other is in poor shape as well (points side). It, like the other, is also discolored from the heat. I will post a picture tonight. I'd appreciate your feedback regarding whether or not it is useable.

Can't really tell anything except if/that it is bad by looking....you have to measure it and the cam journal and compare the difference to spec....and, of course, both surfaces must be smooth and ungouged....

The holes are not round to begin with...That extra pocket helps the oil get where it needs to be.....
Your fingernail will tell a lot better than we can from just a picture, but those LOOK usable IF they measure within spec....

Hard to tell from just a pic....

Thanks again Steve, I'll put the micrometer to them this weekend and make the determination one way or another. The Ebay front does NOT look promising. Hopefully all will be within spec so I can get this thing put together.
