thanks for the info and leads on parts...... the compression is not the real issue/problem or question and did not cause the scoring. i was trying to get a verification on what i noticed... the question is the safe oil level..will the engine/pump work ok down 3/4 qt or is there something about the design which causes problems at that oil level (pickup too high? ...and is splash for bottom end enough at that level...i'm trying to figure out why the cam/cyl scoring and was surprised that there was so much damage while down 3/4 of a qt.....thanks,joe

Oil pick-up is at the bottom (low point) of the sump, on the right side.....Excessive running while on the sidestand could leave it "dry' if the oil level was low......At 145 you are burning off at least SOME of the missing oil in the right cylinder.....
Compression to spec is always an issue........The engine simply won't run/operate correctly without it.......and, when low, the flame front can reach the oil in the sump...
