There is a bulletin from HondaCB450T_service_Bulletin_1.jpg[/attachment:380nxg04]CB450T_service_Bulletin_2.jpg[/attachment:380nxg04] involving all 1982 450's with manual transmissions.
It states that under partial throttle some owners may experience poor drivability performance.
It calls for replacing the jet needle and mixture screw using part numbers
16113-MC0-305 jet needle
16016-413-751 screw set A which is supersceded to number 16016-KC2-970

The needle is the standard/stock needle for 1983 CM450 A Models
The "screw set" are new mixture screws

Thanks for posting!

And just to spell it out if the pics are hard for you to read:

Is the Screw set the one that has the dumb little tab on it so you can't adjust the fuel/ air mixture when it's on the bike. If not which one is it that doesn't have that.
Also haw do you tell what needle you have. I've never noticed a flat spot in mine So I'm assuming that it's been changed.
From reading the last page of the bulletin the last step is to install the limiter caps after the mixture has been set. So I would say they come without them.
The needles are marked at the very top. You have to remove the needle from the piston to check
I've an '82 Honda NightHawk CB450SC that has been giving us trouble for a few years. It was a drivability issue, flat spots, lack of power etc.

After reading all the good info in this forum & am now educated on the why and how to fix the issues. Thanks to those that researched and put it all together, a job well done!

But in regards to finding the correct needle jet (#61-C), it's like a needle in a haystack.

I ran across a web site that offers them, but I've waited over a week for a reply. Has anyone dealt with this outfit before?
http://oldmotorcycleparts.pinnaclecart. ... 3-mc0-305/

This is how they have them listed on their web site......It is the correct part, correct??

NEW HONDA OEM CM450 CM450A Hondamatic Needle Jet 16113-MC0-305
Price: $22.00
Product ID : 16113-MC0-305

I'm tempted to order two from them, but want to know if this is a bogus site or on the up and up. You can only contact them through email, no phone, or other contact info. And like I stated, they have not replied to my quires.

Anyone know anything about this outfit?

Does anyone know where else I can get said needles?

My Honda dealership sells the correct needle valves, I replaced those already.

Also, at the moment, I'm running #115, #38 & # 72 jets. Should I change those to, or should I just run them as they are?

Any help in this matter is very much appreciated.

Thank you!!

There are 2 needles currently on ebay, only 2.
As for doing business with someone that only has email contact and doesn't even respond to that. I wouldn't.
Since these run lean as delivered I would suggest running a 75 primary main jet.
This isn't a cure all but will get your jetting correct so you can find out if there are other issues
Thanks for a heads up, on the eBay listing. Contacted him and he's out of town till Sunday. I'll most likely get them to help sort out the jetting. Besides, no one else has them on line.

Besides swapping out the main jet to a #75, what other jets should I change out?

Looked on line and didn't come up with anyone selling them, any ideas on who would have a set?

There's a guy in eBay selling a high performance set, but not sure if I need all those jets. It has two of the #75's included in the kit. Is that the only jet I'd need to swap out? Just wondering.....

Thanks
Sorry, for posting that I couldn't find the #75, several sites offer them.

One is Z1 Enterprises, Inc. and the other one is, Sirius Consolidated Inc. out of Canada. The latter company is on the expensive side as they want $6 apiece for theirs, whereas Z1 is just asking $1.75.

Big price difference!

Thanks again.....
At this point get the good needles and change the primary main jet up 1 size. Use this place http://www.jetsrus.com/a_jet_kit_street ... _1980.html and I would recommend the OEM Keihin even though they are more expensive.
Try calling your local Honda dealer with the part number from the TSB (16113-MC0-305) and asking them to look around. Last year I was able to get two New Old Stock 61C needles through my local dealer because he was able to locate the parts in other Honda dealerships' inventories using his computer. Basically, dealerships can search all US Honda dealership inventories and find parts that are technically "no longer available" through Honda but have been sitting on a shelf collecting dust in a dealership's service inventory somewhere.
Thanks for the heads up on the needle jets on eBay, got them last week and installed them. Bike fired up a lot better then before. Now I need to order the #75 main jets.

Is that the only jet I replace? What about the other jets? The #48 & #115? Should I replace these too?

This is what I currently have installed, besides the 61C needles. #115, #38 & # 72 jets.
What else should I order at this time?

Thanks for you help....

In most cases these only need a 1 size increase in the Primary Main to clear up the lean condition, so get a pair of #75's
Are people doing the main jet increase in addition to or instead of the needle + mixture screw replacement?
Are people doing the main jet increase in addition to or instead of the needle + mixture screw replacement?
The one size jet increase is done to help correct for the lean running built into the carbs from the factory. Separately the needle is done to correct for a light throttle surge
I'm sure I am not alone in having a hell of a time trying to find 16113-MC0-305 jet needle.

Any advice? (I have tried the Honda dealer of course)

Cheers!

They're made of unobtainium. Those are stock needles for the 1983 CM450A. Your dealer can do a national search of all US dealers but you will pay dearly for them.

They are hard to find but the needle-shim + fuel hose mod is easy to perform, maybe try that route first.
Also remember that this needle change is to fix a cruise surge condition where at steady throttle the engine seems to be unable to hold a constant rpm.
Alas, my issue is part throttle bogging. The engine idles well when warm although seems to need quite a bit of choke to get there, full throttle allows great acceleration. Sometimes part throttle causes bogging and no power.
Bogging is typically a mixture/carb problem. I'd check the accelerator pump function first. With the air box boots off you should see a fine spray coming out of those 2 little jets at the choke plate area when the throttle is twisted. Hard to see so look for the area to get wet.
